One month old Charlie was recently admitted to SCUH with presumed sepsis, the biggest single cause of preventable death in children in Queensland. Fast diagnosis and treatment saves lives. Charlie was immediately placed on a ventilator to help with his breathing, and flown directly to the Mater Mother’s Hospital for an MRI brain scan. His terrified mum and dad said a prayer, watched him fly away, then travelled the long road to Brisbane to be at his side for the fight of his short life.
Little Charlie is one of 25 babies in the past 12 months whose harrowing experience would’ve been easier had a paediatric/neonatal MRI compatible ventilator been available locally.
The Sunshine Coast Turf Club is determined to deliver one to SCUH, and is calling on race goers and local families to help raise $100,000 for 92.7Mix FM’s Give Me 5 and local paediatric services. With winter approaching and peak flu season underway, this vital asset is one our generous community can provide to ensure the best outcome for our sick children and babies.
