WISHLIST’S DAISY DUKES PADDLING FOR CANCER PATIENTS

28 Nov 2016

A new regatta-style event will arrive on the shores of Lake Kawana next weekend, and Wishlist’s Daisy Dukes have their paddles at the ready.

waterllifeThe charity event, which raises funds for health foundation Wishlist, endED and No Limits Adaptive Paddling, features a day of outrigger canoeing, and kayaking on the picturesque Kawana lake.

Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe said Sunday was the first training session for the Daisy Dukes – nicknamed after the charity’s Daisy symbol.

“Waterlife is shaping up to be an incredible day,” Ms Rowe said.

“This event is an inaugural occasion for the Coast and is attracting well-known Sunshine Coast identities, Paralympians, Olympic speed kayakers, more than 40 corporate teams, plus Federal, State and Council politicians trying their hand at outrigging.

Proceeds from the event will be divided among the charities with Wishlist to direct funds to a radial scope to assist doctors in facilitating a timely diagnosis and introduction to treatment for cancer patients on the Sunshine Coast.

“This scope costs $87,630 and fits onto the Wishlist-funded Endoscopic Ultrasound – it is the gold standard worldwide for the diagnosis and staging of pancreatic, biliary and oesophageal cancers,” Ms Rowe added.

“Purchasing this radial scope for the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service will complete endoscopy services available on the Coast and will allow most cancer patients to stay local rather than travelling to Brisbane for the procedure.”

Ms Rowe has encouraged the community and local businesses to get behind the cause.

“It’s not too late! Corporate teams can still register – all you need is five people and we’ll provide the outrigger canoe and steerer on December 3.

“We will have a corporate marquee, Mix FM broadcasting live on the day, a jumping castle and fairy floss for the kids and of course, all the entertainment of the outriggers and skis racing.

“Waterlife is about the community coming together for an active and family-friendly fun day out by Lake Kawana, and most importantly, supporting three dedicated local charities.”

Waterlife is the first regatta-style charity event to be seen on Lake Kawana, and is being sponsored by luxury dealership Coastline BMW.
