Wishlist regrettably confirms that the Run Sunshine Coast event won’t be held this year and has been postponed until 2017.
Run Australia chose Wishlist as the charity event’s sole beneficiary for a five year period, and two successful Run events were held in 2014 and 2015.
Over these two years, Run Sunshine Coast raised more than $200,000 for Wishlist in support of relocating and growing the Child Development Service.
This event was truly unique in that 100 per cent of all participant fees were directly injected back in to the cause.
A Run Sunshine Coast spokesperson said the decision to postpone the event was a difficult one.
“Unfortunately despite best efforts in collaboration with the local council, we were unable to find a suitable location and date to support the growth of Run Sunshine Coast in 2016,” the spokesperson said.
Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe said the Foundation was disappointed with the decision but has called on keen participants of Run Sunshine Coast not to be disheartened.
“We call on the Sunshine Coast community to support this event with gusto come 2017 to make sure Run Australia know that we love this event, and the cause it is supporting,” Ms Rowe said.
“Based on the five year plan we had originally made with Run Australia, Wishlist made a significant commitment of more than $1.4 million dollars to support the Child Development Service,” she said.
“Without the fundraising support of Run Sunshine Coast, the vast majority of this commitment will now be sought through our incredible supporters of Mix FM’s Give Me 5 For Kids throughout the month of June.”
Profits from The House The Coast Built Auction in February will also aid Wishlist to continue to meet their commitment to the Child Development Service.
The Child Development Service accommodates the needs of babies to school aged children with behavioural and developmental issues.
Prior to 2014, the Service was based at the Nambour Hospital.
The team is now working out of a brilliant new community setting (60 Wises Rd, Maroochydore) with new equipment including play areas and extra space for group education sessions. Staffing levels have also increased, with Wishlist committing to fund an extra 1.8 full time positions.
The new and improved Service also treats children aged 8 to 13 where possible but we need your support ensure this service continues to grow and remains in its temporary relocation until it moves into Caloundra Hospital in 2017.
