A $64,000 NIM Nerve Monitor for the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) service greatly improves the safety of operating around critical nerves and is valuable in complex ear and parotid surgery. Currently, Nambour Hospital has to hire this expensive equipment each time a patient requires surgery otherwise the patient has to commute to Brisbane.
Thankfully, Wishlist is continuing to expand on the ENT service and kick-started the fundraising for this vital equipment with proceeds from the Wishlist Garage Sale. $2272 was raised towards preventing inadvertent damage to cranial nerves during delicate throat, ear and nose operations.
Previously, thanks to the generous sponsoring of local bank – Bank of Queensland Mooloolaba (BOQ), Wishlist have already provided $70,000 worth of ENT equipment for the ENT services.
Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe said the garage sale is a great way to kick-start the fundraising for this particular ENT equipment that will decrease travelling time for patients and help to improve local hospital services.
The remainder of the funds needed will hopefully be raised through an end-of-financial-year appeal soon to be announced.
