WISHLIST COFFEE HOUSE TURNS TWO

23 Mar 2015

It’s been two years since the first coffee was brewed and the impressive list of equipment funded by proceeds of Wishlist Coffee House at Gympie Hospital continues to grow.

Since February 2013 Wishlist Coffee House has raised more than $90,000 for the needs of Gympie Hospital and provided a range of equipment for the benefit of local families.

Equipment includes $21,000 for an M7 stretcher for the Outpatients Department, Palliative Care beds, a BP monitor and $9,711 worth of OT equipment.

Wishlist has also secured a number of grants to fund additional equipment for Gympie Hospital such as three versacare beds for $35,000.

To mark the second birthday celebrations the Gympie community is invited to join Wishlist Coffee House volunteers and Manager Richard Ward to see the latest gift delivered to the Emergency Unit at Gympie Hospital.

A $58,000 Point of Care Ultrasound has been in use at Gympie’s Emergency Unit since Christmas thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Wishlist Coffee House team and patrons of the kiosk.

Point of Care Ultrasound is used to guide resuscitation of cardiac arrest, shock and trauma and has revolutionized emergency medicine in recent times, particularly paediatric emergency medicine.

Wishlist recently donated three ultrasounds to the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service with proceeds of fundraising events and, in Gympie, Wishlist Coffee House.

The provision of state of the art POCUS at Nambour, Caloundra and Gympie Emergency units provides local emergency teams with the best possible equipment to save lives, and to help train the teams in worlds best practice, all of which helps accommodate an efficient transition to the new University Hospital opening in 2016.

Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe congratulated both Manager Richard Ward on the success of the Wishlist Coffee House, and the Gympie community for supporting the enterprise so strongly.

“Local families have the benefit of state-of-the-art equipment being donated to the hospital, volunteers know they’re contributing time to an initiative that keeps on giving to their community in such an amazing way and staff and visitors to the hospital have the option of fresh, quality food and coffee on their front doorstep. It’s a win-win all around”, she said.

If you have a few hours to spare to serve behind a counter or help with food preparation, please phone the Wishlist office on 5470 6598 or email us at: sc-wishlist@health.qld.gov.au.

Kiosk opening hours are Monday-Friday 8.30am – 5.00pm.
