Wishlist boosts local gynaecology services

26 Jul 2024

More than 100 women will benefit from a new piece of equipment which has been delivered to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

The $87,150 Myosure device was funded by hospital charity Wishlist, thanks to community donations on Wishlist Giving Day in March.

The Myosure is designed to remove intra-uterine polyps, fibroids and other lesions under direct vision, significantly reducing operating time and complications.

Donations on Wishlist Giving Day also made it possible to establish a new $136,280 Outpatient Hysteroscopy Service at Nambour General Hospital – set to get underway within the next few months.

Sunshine Coast Health Obstetric and Gynaecological Doctor Rachael Nugent said this service will enable rapid diagnosis and reduce the need for anaesthesia and hospital stays.

“Hysteroscopies are a really common procedure that we do in gynaecology and what it means is ladies who come in for this procedure can have it in an outpatient setting – it’s much more convenient, very safe, they don’t need general anaesthetic and it’s a shorter stay,” Dr Nugent said.

“It gives local women a choice and we are really thrilled we can offer this to local patients.”

In total, Wishlist has directed more than $223,000 towards enhancing women's health services this year alone.

Wishlist General Manager Brendan Hogan said having this advanced technology will make a big difference to Sunshine Coast women.

“This contribution to the health service has been enabled through our annual giving day and that has been supported by so many wonderful businesses and individuals,” Mr Hogan said.

“We are thrilled that our support is making a difference in women's healthcare locally.”
