After two weeks in the Special Care Nursery, twins Edward and Thomas are now home sharing cuddles with their big brother Louis.
“My first was born at home – it was a homebirth, so having the twins in hospital was a very different experience,” Mum Jasmin van den Berg said.
“The babies came a bit sooner than expected – they were six weeks early.”

While Edward couldn’t wait to come into the world, Thomas needed a helping hand after making his grand entrance.
“There was a roomful of doctors and nurses… Thomas needed a little bit of help with his breathing,” Jasmin recalls.
“He was on the CPAP (a ventilator to keep the airways open) but within a day he was breathing properly and back in Special Care Nursery.”
With staff casting a watchful over her precious sons, Mrs van den Berg was one of the first parents to stay in the Wishlist-funded Parents Retreat in the Special Care Nursery – a place for parents to relax, unwind and catch up on sleep while staying close to their sick child or premature baby.

“Even though the retreat was in the hospital, it had a homely feel. It was really lovely to get away from the hospital environment.”
