In an effort to encourage relaxation, tranquility and a better state of mind for staff and patients alike, staff and representatives from Nambour Hospital marked the completion of the ‘Wellness Garden’ today!
A joint project of Wishlist and the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service, the Wellness Garden has been developed on the land central to the hospital campus, and includes two pergolas sheltering a variety of seating arrangements, as well as a rock-lined water course with a small foot bridge and a BBQ area, all linked by plant lined pathways.
Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe said as well as offering an outside oasis, the Wellness Garden will become the new home for staff yoga and thai chi sessions.
“Wishlist is committed to supporting the needs of the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service, and our entire team recognise the fact that the sometimes the little things are the big things when it comes to maintaining our health – in mind, body and spirit – and hopefully the establishment of the Wellness Garden assists in that for our staff, our patients and their families,” she said.
Dale Klenner from Nambour Hospital’s Building, Engineering and Maintenance Service (BEMS) said he hopes that anyone who spends a lot of time at the facility – whether for work or medical reasons – makes use of the new outdoor area.
“The hospital can be all consuming sometimes so it will offer a great space to take a seat, watch the bird life and get some fresh air and a change of scenery,” Mr Klenner said.
Wishlist directed $30,000 towards the project, which was also supported by a number of local businesses including White Oak Developments, Rosemount Turf, Programmed Property Services, Rollform Driveways, Avcon Landscaping, Gillett Electrical and True Blue Tree and Stump Removal who donated time and resources or offered materials and services at below cost prices.
