New transport service launched for Gympie Hospital patients

07 Nov 2024

Wishlist, in partnership with Sunshine Coast Health, has launched the Gympie Patient Transport Service, a new and essential transport link for Gympie Hospital patients and carers.

This service connects local patients to specialist care at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Nambour Hospital.

Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe said the service was now underway, which is co-funded by Wishlist and Sunshine Coast Health.

“We’ve commenced this much-needed service to meet the needs of local patients who require access to specialists at Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Nambour Hospital,” Ms Rowe said.

Patient Transport Service - Gympie Hospital

“Wishlist has committed $256,000 to sustaining the Gympie Patient Transport Service for the next two years, to be largely funded by proceeds from the forthcoming sale of Wishlist House Gympie.”

Currently operating in a trial phase, the bus can transport 19 people per trip and is designed to ensure that patients and carers can conveniently access specialist appointments on the Sunshine Coast.

If you have a medical appointment at Nambour Hospital, Sunshine Coast University Hospital or Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital, you can travel (free of charge) on the Wishlist Gympie Patient Transport Service.

Just arrive at the pickup point on time and show the driver your appointment letter or text.

You can also book a ride by contacting your clinical treatment team.

Health staff members who need to arrange transport for a patient should fill out the PTSU booking form on QHEPS.

Patient Transport Service - Gympie Hospital

“Beyond supporting the transport service, the sale of Wishlist House Gympie - hopefully in the coming months - will enable impactful projects across Gympie and further support the thousands of patients traveling to SCUH and Nambour Hospital for treatment.

“We’re creating a Butterfly Suite at Gympie Hospital’s Maternity Unit to provide a compassionate space for women facing the heartbreak of miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal loss.

“Proceeds will also go toward treatment chairs for Ambulatory Care at Gympie Hospital, contribute to the region’s first Biplane Unit for critical stroke treatment, and support Wishlist Reed House to provide comfortable low or no-cost accommodation for Gympie patients needing to be close to a Sunshine Coast hospital.”
