Wishlist’s new accommodation facility, Wishlist Centre, is one step closer to construction, following completion of the detailed design.
Built over four levels, this innovative and collaborative space will offer a circle-of-care for those experiencing a health crisis away from the clinical environment of a local hospital, delivering services and activities that provide physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological support for patients and their families.
Located directly opposite the Sunshine Coast University Hospital on the corner of Eccles Boulevarde and Bright Place, Birtinya, Wishlist Centre (Stage One) will offer in-house medical, allied and specialist services, communal space for social support and educational activities to supplement the patient’s care plan and to support their family or carer.
The facility will include:
- 16 spacious and light-filled studio transitionary
care accommodation rooms with ensuite, kitchenette and interconnecting doors for
patient and carer privacy. - Two family accommodation units, with
two large bedrooms. - Person with Disability (PWD) compliant
rooms, including all furniture, fixtures and fittings. - A dedicated on-site kitchen, dining
room, laundry, outdoor BBQ area and gym. - A communal quiet/sitting room for
patients and their carers. - Break-out and shared spaces for
community activities. - Multi-sensory playground to support
paediatric patients and their siblings requiring ongoing treatment. - Outdoor balconies with views to
Kawana Lake and the Glass House mountains. - Wellness and consultation rooms for therapeutic
massage, tele-health, counselling, and social work to support the patients and
their families through their health journey. - On-site patient and visitor parking.

Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe said that a $12 million grant would help fund this ambitious project, thanks to Andrew Wallace MP and the Federal Government. However, more funding was needed for the fit-out.
“The detailed design highlights our need for additional funding to ensure Wishlist Centre is a comfortable and supportive environment for our patients and their families during an ongoing health crisis and to encourage like-minded service providers, not-for-profits and community organisations to collaborate within the
facility,” Ms Rowe said.
“A further $2 million is needed by 2022 for the fit-out of Wishlist Centre to ensure the
facility is all it must be for patients and their families,” Ms Rowe said.
