CRITICAL PROJECT NOW OPEN

26 Feb 2021

The Paediatric Critical Care Unit Family Room is now available for families to rest and retreat to, thanks to health foundation Wishlist.

The $186,000 Family Room – which was once a storeroom – is located just steps away from the Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe said the project had been two years in the making and was only made possible thanks to the generous hearts of the Sunshine Coast.

“This room was inspired by a little boy named Hugo, who sadly passed away last year,” Ms Rowe said. “Hugo had a very long stay in PCCU and his parents did not have the option of being able to stay just steps away from their critically ill child. “Critical Care staff told us this room was needed and we jumped at the chance to make this vital project a reality.”

The one-bedroom retreat has an ensuite, tv, an area of storing bags, and is close to a kitchenette nearby.

The room was funded by 92.7 Mix FM’s Give Me 5 For Kids, the Woolworths Wall Token Appeal, Armesto’s Transport and Children’s Hospital Foundation.
