In a remarkable display of community spirit, Wishlist’s K’s 4 Cancer event at Lake Kawana this month achieved a new record for the number of entrants and funds raised.
Now in its fifth year, K’s 4 Cancer drew an impressive turnout of more than 760 participants to its 2023 event.
Against the backdrop of the picturesque lake, runners from across the community gathered with high energy, bright colours and costumes, ready to embark on a determined journey to complete the 10km, 5km or 2.5km – each step symbolising a collective effort to support local cancer patients.
“Families, friends, school groups, health staff, local businesses and even pets joined in, creating a fun atmosphere and showing support for the local community,” fundraising and partnerships manager Lisa Wilson says.
“We are thrilled to announce a record-breaking tally this year: 469 runners made a change and raised $33,429 which will be directed to support local cancer patients and families.”
Competition was fierce, with the Sunshine Coast Health Service teams battling it out for the top spot.
The cardiology team Heart & Sole emerged as the top fundraising team, raising almost $6000, while the three top individual fundraisers collectively raised $5365.
