BILLY SLATER'S BUDDIES JOIN THE WISHLIST FUN RUN

11 Apr 2018

Youngsters on the Sunshine Coast will be put through their paces at the Wishlist Fun Run next Sunday following Billy’s Buddies jumping onboard for the epic fundraising event.

The non-contact ball skills program for two to six-year-olds started on the Sunshine Coast last year and will officially launch on the Coast with rugby league legend Billy Slater next month.

Wishlist Event and Fundraising Manager Lisa Wilson said the Billy’s Buddies Obstacle Course was a perfect fit for the Fun Run to encourage families to get out and active on Lake Kawana on Sunday April 22.

“The Obstacle Course is just a $5 donation to Wishlist and it’s proving to be very popular with entrants,” Mrs Wilson said.

“There are plenty of mums and dads who have registered for the 10km or 5km run and have asked grandma and grandad to take the kids along to the Obstacle Course.
“There will also be entertainment, a breakfast barbecue, a fruit station, giveaways, facepainting, jumping castle, a goodie bag for all entrants, plus bagpipes and bubbles out on the track – just to mix things up a bit.”

Billy’s Buddies South Sunshine Coast Franchisee Michael Price said it was a no-brainer to support the Wishlist event as part of the local hospital foundation’s 20 year celebrations.

“We were involved in last year’s Wishlist Teddy Bears’ Picnic which was a great success with local families, and we jumped at the chance to be involved in the charity’s 20th year celebrations,” Mr Price said.

“Billy’s Buddies is Billy Slaters’ non-contact ball skills program for children aged two to six and promotes an active lifestyle with healthy habits.

“Our professionally-trained coaches deliver core skills with a safe, fun themed, game-based learning approach. These games are designed to constantly challenge the children and promote teamwork to achieve a required outcome with rewards at the completion.

“The benefits of which are dramatic improvements in confidence, spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, gross motor and social skills whilst grasping the fundamentals of ball sports.”
