Whoever says age slows you down hasn’t yet met the ‘Jolly Gerries’.
Each Friday at Jetts Fitness Kawana, a group of nine or so geriatric adults called the Jolly Gerries meet for group exercise with fitness instructor and 2013 Australian Personal Trainer of the year Paul Nichols.
“Training the Jolly Gerries is all about proving that age is no barrier and fitness can be enjoyed at any level.” said Mr Nichols.
“I run the service myself – free of charge – to encourage older adults to get active and prove that it’s never too late to start.”
This year, Paul and the Jolly Gerries are entering Run Sunshine Coast and are urging other local sporting teams and clubs to do the same.
“I wanted to stop people from thinking they are too old for fun-runs and I want to give back to the community in doing so.” said Jetts Instructor Paul Nichols.
Run Sunshine Coast is only three weeks away and Wishlist are encouraging the Sunshine Coast Community to get onboard.
Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe said by participating in the run you are helping to sustain the growth of the Child Development Service.
“One hundred percent of proceeds from the Run ensure we’re able to expand the Child Development Service and maintain it’s there for local families for the next few years. CDS provides assistance to children who may suffer from learning experiences such as Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Motor Disorders or behaviour and learning difficulties.” Ms Rowe said.
“You never know when a family may need assistance from CDS and proceeds from the Run ensure we’re able to expand this service and make it accessible for the local families. Without the support of the Sunshine Coast Community, none of this would be possible. We are urging local businesses, sporting teams and schools to jump onboard Run Sunshine Coast.”
