Watch - Wishlist Funds Health Staff Scholarships

08 May 2024

With support from two local philanthropists Wishlist has funded two staff scholarships for Sunshine Coast Health Staff looking to take the next steps in their professional development.

Neonatal Nurse, Tonya Gibbs, and Cardiac Physiologist, Crystal Williamson, will receive $5,000 and $3,000 respectively to go towards post-graduate studies.

The $5,000 Mike Kelly Scholarship is awarded annually in honour of former Wishlist Chairman, Mike Kelly, who helped guide Wishlist in raising $20 million for local health services over two decades.

Tonya Gibbs works on the neo-natal ward and will now be able to obtain her Master of Nurse Practitioner qualification so she can continue to help our most vulnerable patients at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

The inaugural $3,000 Vas Srinivasan scholarship was donated by Dr Srinivasan and honours his father, Srinivasan Arumugam, who received excellent cardiac specialist care at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

The scholarship was fittingly awarded to Cardiac Physiologist, Crystal Williamson, who will now be able to pursue her Graduate Diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound.

Wishlist’s CEO, Lisa Rowe, spoke about the importance of staff scholarships and their impact on local health staff.

“Having these scholarships made possible by local philanthropists like the Srinivasan family is wonderful for the health heroes in the region looking to further their education”.

“Opportunities like these allow our health service staff to know that their community is looking out for them as they continue to provide care for us every day,” said Ms Rowe.

Wishlist were able to surprise both Crystal and Tonya with the news of their successful applications – Watch the video here.
